Kenyan 'Mungiki' Snuff Clan Arrested

Reports coming out of Kenya state that there have been several arrests in connection with a spate of beheadings on the outskirts of Nairobi. The people arrested are believed to be members of or are associated with 'Mungiki', which is a religious cult or sect believed to have been formed in 1988 with the aim of toppling the government of immediate former president of Kenya, Daniel Torotich arap Moi.

The Mungiki posed as a religious group who favour a return to indigineous African traditions and reject westernization and all trappings of colonialism. The trademark of the group is taking snuff during communion and worship, the Mau Mau dreadlock hairstyle and a fervent belief in traditional values such as female genital mutilation.
