How do I stop the mild lemon choking me?

I can clearly see why some snuffs are not appropriate for beginners!!

I have brought a box of McChrystals Mild Lemon Snuff with me to work today and I am having a bit of trouble with it.

Each time I pinch some it seems to reach my throat almost instantly despite my ever-so-slight sniff and I cannot resist coughing a few times...obviously this is no good and I sense it is because of two things;

My poor technique and the fact that this snuff is dry and ground very finely.

Is this particular snuff one I should only attempt once I am more experienced?

Cheers

You're rght the McChrystal's

You're rght the McChrystal's Mild Lemon snuff is a quite a dry one, but is also one of my favourites. This was one of the first snuffs that I tried and I still really love its strong flavours.

I usually pinch from the back of my hand and inhale very gently. Try to keep the snuff in the front part of your nose as that's where you'll taste the flavours most and should stop your throat from getting irritated.

You could also try mixing a bit of McChrystals O & G with it to moisten it out a bit.

Thanks for the advice

Thanks for the advice Snuffman, I didn't know you could (or should) mix snuffs together...

Mixing up snuff cocktails is one of the finer pleasures of life, so I recommend you try and find your own blend and add it to our snuff cocktails page: http://snufftobacco.co.uk/snuff_cocktails

I was on the train from London to Bath last night and I tried some of the Mild Lemon again for the first time in a while after reading your comments and was suprised at how tickly this snuff was. Admittedly the snuff that I had was probably bought about 9 months ago but I immediately wanted to cough and sneeze, something which hasn't happened to me for a long time.

I blame you entirely!!!

Whoops

Whoops! Sorry about that snuffman...!

I haven't dared try that lemon snuff for days now, I'll be brave enough again soon I feel.

I have managed to get my hands on three different snuffs last week;

Lowen-Prise, Gawith Apricot and Sam Gawith Black Coffee. I liked them all but my favourite was the Apricot one, it was really nice and very easy to snuff. No irritation or tickling at all!

Another snuffer said to me that if I like the Apricot I should try the Gawith Cola flavour but none of the snuff sites I go to sell it...

ive got some mac lemon.

ive got some mac lemon. certainly dry and fine. i find back of hand technique, squeeze snuff when pinching, and breathing warm breath over it assists. gentle sniff too(very!). strangely, bigger pinches irritate less also. stick with it, its a great snuff. reminds me of the smell of a hot plate in front of me on pancake day!!
