S.P. 100
At first, and as one new to snuff, I was initially put off when I opened my tin of S.P. 100, because of a strong ammonia smell.
I have since learned that the ammonia is there for a reason, and doesn't indicate a problem with the snuff.
The ammonia is there to provide an alkaline condition, which allows the nicotine to be absorbed effectively.
If the tin is opened and allowed to stand for a few minutes, the strong ammonia scent all but disappears, leaving behind a pleasant tobacco scent.
I'm not a big fan of flavoured snuffs (and I can't stand mentholated snuffs!) so I have settled on a variety of plain snuffs, the S.P. types being my favourites.
Wilsons of Sharrow S.P. 100 is a fine example of this type of snuff, and is my main staple.
I began my snuffing 'career' on S.P. type snuffs, and I wasn't really aware of the different types of snuff available.
I don't really know whether to recommend it for a beginner, as it is a very fine, dry type of snuff- not really ideal to learn your technique on.
Having said that, I think that the very pleasant and subtle aroma of this snuff is what made me persevere with snuff taking, and get over the sneezy stage.
I have a good few tins of various snuffs that I have bought to try out, but I always keep coming back to this one. I don't often want to walk round with the smell of flowers or fruit in my nostrils, but this one is subtle enough to be used all day.
I find the scent of this snuff intriguing, and I enjoy carrying it around in my nose. I don't think I'll ever get bored of this everyday 'workhorse' snuff.
