Quit Smoking with Snuff
If you are a smoker then at one point or another you would probably have tried to quit smoking. Maybe as a New Year's resolution, maybe because you just wanted to feel healthier. You would have probably tried going cold turkey, lasted a few days then at the first stressful moment or the next time you were sitting in your local with your favourite beer in front of you, you would probably have headed straight for the nearest cigarette machine.
I would imagine that you would have tried patches, nicotine chewing gum (eek!), made yourself look really cool with a nicotine inhaler, tried smoking cigars instead and maybe you would even have visited Paul McKenna or your local hypnotist. However, for a large number of you this wouldn't have worked and you will still be puffing away.
Well how about giving snuff a shot?
Being an ex heavy smoker myself I have already managed to cut down considerably by using snuff and will only rarely have a cigarette now. How did I do it you may ask? Well, snuff comes in really handy when you have those desperate nicotine cravings. Those times when you are dying for a cigarette like after a coffee, when you come home from work, when you're twiddling your thumbs and biting your nails in a (smokefree) pub. A pinch of snuff will quite simply take those cravings away and because the nicotine uptake from snuff is a lot quicker than with cigarettes you will feel an almost instant relief. However, I must warn you all that it probably isn't the best replacement for the post coital cigarette - snuff in this situation probably isn't the most attractive option!!!
There also seems to be a growing consensus that snuff is a very effective nicotine replacement and in 1985 Cancer Research UK reported that there was no evidence of any health risk:
"Snuff seems an entirely acceptable substitute for smoking and could be recommended for addicted smokers because, if they could substitute snuff-taking for smoking, they would greatly reduce the risk to their health,"

Quit Smoking with snuff
I smoked a pack of cigarettes a day for about 27 years. I had tried to quit before, but the patches didn't work, and the gum and lozenges taste so bad that they did me no good either. I had used snuff in college, and enjoyed it, so a couple of weeks ago, I ordered a selection of snuff. I haven't had a cigarette in 2 weeks!
Here is the point I wanted to make. The opinions on this, and all the inferior snuff forums, recommend carrying a high nicotine content snuff, and using it when you want a cigarette. This works pretty well, but smoking is not just about the nicotine, it's also about "keeping your hands busy". Getting over the craving by sniffing over and over again with a high nicotine snuff, I blew the top of my head off many times. What I settled on, was carrying a killer high nicotine menthol snuff, but also carrying something like a Wilson's SP, or a McChrystal's Raspberry, that I can sniff repeatedly with "wild abandon", without getting a headache. This tactic has really helped me get through some of the bad cravings.
An old friend of mine tells me that quitting cigarettes is harder than quitting heroin. And he's just the sort of aging hippie that probably knows first hand.....

Too right!
I couldn't agree with what you say more! I have given up for nearly a month now and find it best to keep 1 higher nicotine snuff like McChrystals smokers blend, and a variety of other snuffs nearby to sniff at will. So far it's worked a treat for me and I have hardly missed the cigarettes apart from on the odd occassion.
Type of snuff
Dear Java,
What is this high nicotine brand of snuff You speak of? I also smoke heavily and found that silverstone does not do it for me. Kindly forward the brand name and types of snuff that You know have a kick. This would be a great help and sincerely appreciated.
Kindest regards,
Danny
Your friend is right.
I was a heroin addict for 6 years. And I was able to stop it at the second try. I was a cigarette addict for 19 years. I failed in stopping it about a hundred times. Quitting heroin feels like having a real bad flu for about a week. Then it's over.. To quit smoking is really a thousand times harder. At last I don't smoke anymore and take snuff instead....it's a lot more fun to take snuff than to smoke...it tastes better...it's cheaper....it's great.
I hope you understand my german school-english....
Distant heavy smoker
I too have turned to snuff to ease the cravings but waiting for delivery to New Zealand (two weeks) cant be good for freshness.
Anyone know of anywhere closer to here to purchase.
Hi There, If you have bought
Hi There,
If you have bought the snuff from a reputable store (like the Snuff Supermarket) then the snuff should be delivered in sealed containers.
This will keep the snuff air tight and you should be able to keep the snuff for a few months at least.
In fact some snuffs get better with age.
So 2 weeks shouldnt be a problem at all.
Happy Snuffin
